Change can be a hard thing to accept. Right now my church is going through some changes, with three full-time staffers departing and two new ones coming in. This is just the latest series of many major staff changes. In the past five years we have had nearly 80-percent turnover on our staff. For those who hate change, it’s been a tough five years!
Today in our staff meeting, our newest staffer was introduced and we all got to welcome her warmly and fill her in on some of the ins and outs of our office environment. I’m sure it was like drinking out of a fire hose, so hopefully she’s all right, but it just reminded me once again that change takes patience. There are new things to learn and new people to meet. And unless they come from inside your organization, they don’t know a lot about you or how your office works. Who do they go to with a computer problem? If they need rubber bands? If they need to get a message to the church body? Who are the key volunteers? What is the history of the department? Of the church? So much information!
And so it takes time and patience. This I was reminded of today.
